SUPPORTING SUCCESS

Supporting Success is an innovative project that helps individuals who are vulnerable in the labour market, that have successfully found work, start work and remain in employment.

HOW DOES SUPPORTING SUCCESS WORK?

Individuals who are about to start work will be offered their own personal Job Coach who will work with them during those first few days before starting their new employment. They will then be supported throughout the induction and probationary periods and beyond, until they feel comfortable, secure and happy in their new position.

The initial coaching session will be face to face, and thereafter coaching can be conducted over the telephone at a time convenient to the client, employer and coach.

HOW CAN THE COACH ASSIST THE CLIENT?

Job Coaches will utilise proven coaching techniques that offer an action orientated programme that enables people find speedy and effective solutions to the problems and barriers they face. The coaching process will boost clients’ self-confidence, self-belief and motivation; convert their aspirations and ideas into plans and action; and develop their skills and the qualities of self-reliance and persistence.

Using a coaching approach will provide support, but also challenge inappropriate and unhelpful attitudes and behaviours and help clients develop coping strategies to deal with problems as they arise.

WHO CAN BENEFIT FROM THE SUPPORTING SUCCESS PROGRAMME?

Supporting Success is for clients who have been in receipt of benefits who are about to start, or have just started a work.

The total project will last for a period of 3 years, help 150 beneficiaries and is targeted at people who have experienced the following:

1       A period away from the workplace

2       Previous poor/patchy work history

3       A history of temporary or part-time employment

4       Low skills levels

5       Being at risk of becoming long term unemployed

6       Other problems or barriers to successful employment

HOW WILL CLIENTS BE REFERRED?

Jobcentre Plus staff and other referral partner organisations will refer individuals that have been offered a job, who are about to start, or have just started a job, where the need for this support service is identified.

Supporting Success can be linked in with Jobcentre Plus programmes such as Work Trials, to support and enhance success rates.
